WHY CASH-BASED PT?

Apr 10, 2023

“Do you take my insurance?” is one of the more common questions we get from new clients. The answer is that we are an out-of-network provider. But here are some things to consider before you let that question dictate your decision where to go:

When you get the required referral from your doctor for insurance based physical therapy, the average patient is asked to see a physical therapist 2-3 times per week for anywhere from 4-12 weeks.

First, it could be hard to even get an appointment in a timely manner. In today’s age of higher demand and short staffing, the wait at a typical clinic can sometimes be weeks before you are able to get in for an evaluation. If you are in pain, you want help now!

When you finally get in with the insurance-based clinic, each visit will likely have a co-pay, anywhere from $20-$75, depending on your insurance. You could also pay 100% of costs until the deductible has been met, and some deductibles can be thousands of dollars. Insurance coverages are only getting stingier and more restrictive to the clients they are supposed to serve.

Along with charging you more, insurance companies have been reimbursing providers less, forcing many clinics to double-book or sometimes triple-book patients at the same time, just to keep the lights on. This not only limits the amount of time spent with your PT, but greatly reduces the quality of care and outcomes in the long term.  It’s a big reason why we hear from people that they tried PT, and it just didn’t work.

Insurance will even dictate the types of treatments a clinician can or cannot do with their patients, including hands-on manual treatment and other modalities. If you have had a PT experience like this in the past, where you felt like you hardly got to see your clinician and they barely put their hands on you, we understand your frustration. We have worked in these types of settings; it’s frustrating all around.

On the other hand, a big reason we started FORGE is to cut out the dictates of the insurance company and serve YOU, our client, directly. Our goal is to get you in and get you seen as soon as possible. In the state of Florida physical therapists can have Direct Access without a physician’s referral for 30 days. You could be seen as soon as the following day for an hour-long one on one session with your PT to get the bottom of your problem.

Every visit is one-on-one with individualized care focused on your particular needs. We have decades of experience with the issues that bring you in and we tackle them with any required hands-on treatment as well as tailored exercise prescriptions, closely watching and correcting any issues with the movements. With this focused care we can promise better results with fewer visits, not only getting you out of pain, but also giving you a program to help prevent the problem from ever coming back. Better attention, better outcomes.

Another advantage we have is flexible scheduling. We know you’re busy and have other obligations of work and family. We can work with you to find days and times that work for your schedule, whether early mornings or later evenings. We also like to be available for any questions or concerns you have throughout the course of your sessions with us.

Many of our clients also have insurance with out-of-network benefits that can provide reimbursement for our services. At Forge we can provide you with a Superbill upon request that can be submitted to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. We also accept payment from Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) as other forms of payment.

When it comes down to it, working outside of the insurance-based model is the way to go: faster service, more personalized care, and better outcomes with fewer visits. You will save money in the long run and solve your problems sooner!
