Making Strong Women Stronger
Sep 12, 2023Ladies, the verdict is in: if you want to look “lean and toned”, then starving yourself and jogging endless miles on the treadmill is not the answer.
If you want to not only look good, but actually feel good, then getting on a proper strengthening program is essential, especially as we get older. 🏋️♂️
Let’s dispel the big myth first:
✅ Lifting weights will NOT make you bulky or look like a man. The ability to build bulk comes from genetics, hormones, and lots of hard work and dietary requirements that most men who are trying to bulk come nowhere close to meeting. Don’t worry about getting bigger when you lift, as you might actually experience the opposite.
✅ Light weights and high reps aren’t the best way to get stronger. Work with a coach who can guide you toward lifting a heavier weight properly and instruct you on the loads and repetitions needed to build strength optimally.
✅ Stronger muscles aren’t necessarily bigger muscles. Strength is strictly your body’s ability to generate force against an object. That depends on your body’s ability to fire all of its muscle fibers in sequence as well as the density of those fibers built through training. You will likely get stronger with no change in size whatsoever when you start training. 💪
✅ True change happens in the kitchen, not the gym. Your clothes will start fitting better and you will start to see the changes when you get your training diet tuned in. Learning the proper way to fuel your training and recover optimally happens with what you put in your mouth and when. The phrase “You can’t out-train a bad diet” is 💯 true.
✅ Strength training is the Fountain of Youth. Resistance training is the hands down best way to prevent muscle and bone loss as we age, which has HUGE effects down the road on osteoporosis and injury from falls. Energy levels remain high when it’s easier to move your body around.
And we can’t explain it, but older people who lift just look younger, so there’s that. 😉
